Grace Brown, the esteemed Australian cyclist, has announced her retirement from professional cycling at the conclusion of the 2024 season. The news came as a heartfelt message from Brown, expressing both her excitement for the future and her sadness at leaving the sport. Brown won Liege Bastogne Liege during the 2024 Spring Classics season.

“I have some big news that I want to share with everyone,” Brown began. “It’s been something I’ve thought about for a while now and I feel finally confident to tell everyone. I know that I could have many more years in cycling, but I really miss my life in Australia with my husband, my family and my friends, and it’s something that is harder and harder to leave.”

Brown, who has been a prominent figure in women’s cycling, reflected on her career with a sense of fulfilment. “I’m really content with everything that I’ve achieved is far beyond what I ever expected. I’m really excited for the next chapter of my life, but at the same time I’m also really sad to leave this world behind. I will surely miss the atmosphere at the races that you just don’t get in normal life and of course, all the great people that I’ve worked with throughout the years. It’s really an experience and a part of my life that I’ll carry with me forever.”

It’s been a really special experience to share this journey with you all and I hope that this announcement is not too disappointing for you and that you will support me and my decision. But it’s not over yet. I still have some really big goals that I want to achieve this year and I will continue racing with FDJ Suez until the end of the season, so please continue your support and let’s see if I can sign off in style. It’s not goodbye just yet. See you at the next race.”

Team manager Stephen Delcourt also shared his thoughts on Brown’s retirement, recognising her significant impact on the team. “Tonight, with a mix of emotion and gratitude, we announce the upcoming retirement of our unparalleled leader, Grace Brown, at the end of this season. Grace is not just a leader at FDJ Suez, but an exceptional woman whose strength and vision have greatly contributed to our success.
